When I first encountered these lovely leaves, I thought that they were a version of waterlilies. But after a bit of research, I discovered that they are called watershield. Watershield is an aquatic, perennial herb with floating leaves that grows in ponds, lakes, and slow moving streams. Their Latin name is Brasenia schreberi. I love this combination of leaves and that you can see the red stems underneath the surface of this placid pond.
A scientist learning to embrace herself as an artist. Behind my lens, I slow down and frame the world. Living and working in the DC metro area, it is easy to speed through my day. With my camera in hand, I pause, compose, recompose, and capture the details and wonders of our daily lives. My photography is embedded in the DMV, but extends beyond the mid-Atlantic as I travel around the world. The images that I love the most feature the green spaces of our world, whether in our secret garden or along a shoreline or in cities across the globe. I am thrilled to share my passion with you and hope you will join me on my visual journey.
